Description

The Arthritis Foundation of the ACT Inc (Arthritis ACT) was established in 1977 with the aim of improving the quality of life of people in the ACT with arthritis, osteoporosis and other musculoskeletal conditions. It is affiliated with the Arthritis Foundation of Australia (AFA), Osteoporosis Australia (OA) and with affiliates in all other States.

Additional InformationThe Foundation offers a range of services including: • Library of books, journals and videos and DVDs relevant to people with musculoskeletal conditions. • Seminars and workshops on topics relevant to the needs of members. • Newsletters (both the ACT and the NSW Magazine) available quarterly for members. • Self-Management Courses designed to improve the quality of life for people affected by arthritis, osteoporosis and related conditions. • Support/Interest Groups which provide ongoing support for members in specific areas. • Exercise Programs including warm water exercise (hydrotherapy). • Education and Training opportunities for GP’s, health professionals and peer educators to enhance their capacity to prevent and reduce the impact of arthritis, musculoskeletal conditions. • Health Promotion programs to raise community awareness. • Research donations are forwarded to AFA for inclusion in their national distribution to worthy projects. • Lobbying government about the needs of people with these conditions. Financial support comes from our members, our fundraising efforts, donations from the general public and organisations fundraising for us, as well as government grants to run specific programs In order to sustain relevant, quality services to our community and expand our programs to meet the unmet need in our community, we look for support from people in our region. Our office is open Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 4.00pm. Our answering machine is available for messages after hours.
