The Child at Risk Health Unit (CARHU) is part of the Division of Women Youth & Children Community Health Programs. The unit provides medical examinations, health screens, education, consultation and therapy for children and their families/carers, where there are concerns of abuse and/or neglect.
How can clients access the service: Parents/carers can contact the Intake Worker on 6244 2712. The Intake Worker can assist with health related concerns about children/young people suspected of being abused. The Intake Worker can provide telephone advice and support, and where appropriate invite parents/carers to CARHU for a concerns interview. If required clients may then be referred to a health professional within CARHU or to another agency.
Referral Process: Contact the Intake Worker during business hours with requests for service. A written referral is required from all health and other professionals where a clinical service is requested. Referral forms are provided.

|Additional Information||Hours: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday (Closed on public holidays). After Hours Referral Process: Call TCH switchboard T 02 6244 2222 to contact the Child at Risk Medical Consultant. Health and other professionals may consult with CARHU however the consulting does not remove the professional’s mandatory responsibility to report suspected non-accidental injury or sexual abuse of children and young people to Care and Protection Services.
